Phoenix History Tour

2.3.2024

Workshop Summary:

In our recent partnership with the Phoenix Mayor’s Office, Kids in Focus had the honor of participating in a special project alongside Phoenix Mayor’s Office Historian, Steve Schumacher, and “Then and Now” Photographer, Paul Scharbach. Inspired by Phoenix History Month in March, and Paul’s “Then and Now” photo book showcasing the city’s rich history, our collaboration aimed to capture the essence of Phoenix’s past and present through the lens of our young photographers.

The Mayor’s Office developed a tour route that visited several historical sites, providing 12 kids from the Kids in Focus Grads Program, aged 10 to 18, with a unique opportunity to engage with their city’s heritage. Through photography, they were able to explore and document the evolving landscape of Phoenix, gaining valuable skills and perspectives along the way.

We welcome the Phoenix Mayor’s Office to tweak the project summary as it applies to better fit their needs. The information included is primarily to provide them with statistics on the number of kids who have participated.
