YOU make a difference just by showing up! Bring your friends and family to enjoy an inspirational evening with live music. Meet the kids, be amazed by their 112 powerful photographs, and help us celebrate their achievements. This will be our largest opening ever as we exhibit the images from both 2020 and 2021 after-school programs.
Twenty-five volunteer photographers mentored 56 at-risk youth through 9-week explorations of their world, using the safe aperture of a camera to help them gain a new perspective on the world and themselves. It’s an inspirational event you don’t want to miss! Images and coffee-table books will be available for purchase. This event is free and family-friendly.
The kids, ages 10-14, are students at Sequoia Deaf School, Children First Leadership Academy, and Boys and Girls Club Guadalupe. All are considered at-risk and are living at or below the poverty line. Many experience homelessness, abuse, and neglect. These young storytellers shifted from shy and apathetic to bold and engaged as they explored with their cameras and mentors on weekly field trips around town. The resulting images are a tribute to the restorative power of self-expression.
